Pullman National Historic Monument and Park
Pullman was the first planned industrial community in the United States. It became one of the most well known company towns. It was also the scene of the violent Pullman strike of 1894 that greatly influenced the Labor Movement in the U.S. It was built for George Pullman as a place to produce the famous Pullman sleeping cars. It was recently designated a National Monument and National Historic District.
Logan Square House Walk 2018
In September of 2018 I went on the Logan Square House Walk. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful houses on the boulevards! I thought I did a blog post back then, but when I checked I realized I didn’t. Thanks to one of my followers, who asked, “ where are all the beautiful Logan Square houses”? Here they are…enjoy.

Yesterday I was feeling both bored and adventurous. So, I decided to view Logan Square in a whole new light…….in black & white, or noir (as my photo editor called it).
Lake Geneva Mail Boat Tour
Last weekend I vacationed in Pell Lake Wisconsin and enjoyed taking the Lake Geneva Mail Boat Tour. The boat tour is 2 1/2 hours long and goes past many beautiful mansions and houses. Someone actually jumps off the boat onto the docks and delivers U.S. mail.
Devon and Western – Chicago
Last week I visited Devon and Western in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago. It is a very interesting and colorful area, with unique architecture, street signs, restaurants and shops that are primarily of the Indian culture.
Historic Houses on Kedzie Boulevard
There are many historic houses in Logan Square. Logan Square has a designated historic district and historic boulevard district. Shown below are three historic houses on Kedzie Boulevard in Logan Square.
MCA – Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 220 East Chicago Avenue near Water Tower Place in Chicago’s Gold Coast. It was established in 1967 and is one of the world’s largest art venues. Their collection is composed of thousands of objects of Post World War II visual art.
Garfield Park Conservatory
Garfield Park Conservatory is located at 300 North Central Park in Chicago’s Garfield Park. It is one of the largest greenhouse conservatories in the U.S. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits covering 4.5 acres. There are plant species from around the world. It was designed by landscape architect Jens Jensen in 1905 and built in 1906 – 1907.
Morton Arboretum
The Morton Arboretum in Lisle Illinois is mostly trees and about trees, but they also have beautiful sculptures representing nature and a children’s section, yoga classes and gift shop. I really enjoyed my walk around the arboretum! It was very relaxing.
