At the Palmer House

The Palmer House Hilton is an historic hotel in downtown Chicago. It was Chicago’s first hotel with elevators, and the first hotel with electric lights and telephones in guest rooms. It was closed temporarily in March 2020 due to COVID, but reopened in June 2021. It was built in 1870 but was destroyed by the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. A new larger Palmer House was built in 1875 with more space and more ornate details. The Third Palmer House is the one that stands today at 17 E. Monroes Street. t was built in 1925 by architects Holabird & Roche and Richard Neutra.

  1. Spectacular pictures of an iconic Chicago landmark! Thanks Linda and Happy Groundhog’s Day!

  2. Great pictures. They back a lot of great memories of retirement parties that I attended. They also had a wonderful gift shop that I browsed at lunch time.
