The Palmer House Hilton is an historic hotel in downtown Chicago. It was Chicago’s first hotel with elevators, and the first hotel with electric lights and telephones in guest rooms. It was closed temporarily in March 2020 due to COVID, but reopened in June 2021. It was built in 1870 but was destroyed by the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. A new larger Palmer House was built in 1875 with more space and more ornate details. The Third Palmer House is the one that stands today at 17 E. Monroes Street. t was built in 1925 by architects Holabird & Roche and Richard Neutra.

Pullman was the first planned industrial community in the United States. It became one of the most well known company towns. It was also the scene of the violent Pullman strike of 1894 that greatly influenced the Labor Movement in the U.S. It was built for George Pullman as a place to produce the famous Pullman sleeping cars. It was recently designated a National Monument and National Historic District.
In September of 2018 I went on the Logan Square House Walk. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful houses on the boulevards! I thought I did a blog post back then, but when I checked I realized I didn’t. Thanks to one of my followers, who asked, “ where are all the beautiful Logan Square houses”? Here they are…enjoy.
Yesterday I was feeling both bored and adventurous. So, I decided to view Logan Square in a whole new light…….in black & white, or noir (as my photo editor called it).
Last weekend I vacationed in Pell Lake Wisconsin and enjoyed taking the Lake Geneva Mail Boat Tour. The boat tour is 2 1/2 hours long and goes past many beautiful mansions and houses. Someone actually jumps off the boat onto the docks and delivers U.S. mail.
